In a display of endurance and determination, Norwegian triathlete Kristian Blummenfelt and Britain’s Kat Matthews clinched victories at the 2025 Memorial Hermann IRONMAN Texas North American Championship. Both athletes not only secured first place in their respective categories but also set new course records, marking a significant milestone in their careers.
Men’s Race Highlights
Kristian Blummenfelt, the 2021 Olympic gold medalist, showcased a remarkable comeback after a challenging 2024 season. He completed the race with a total time of 7:24:20, breaking the previous course record. His performance included a 48:34 swim, a 3:57:14 bike ride, and a 2:34:03 marathon run.
“This victory is a testament to perseverance and hard work,” Blummenfelt stated post-race. “After the setbacks of last year, returning to form here in Texas feels incredible.”
Women’s Race Highlights
Kat Matthews achieved her third consecutive win at IRONMAN Texas, finishing with a time of 8:10:34. This performance not only secured her victory but also set a new course record. Matthews’ splits included a 56:24 swim, a 4:20:08 bike ride, and a 2:49:19 marathon run.
“Each race presents its own challenges,” Matthews commented. “Breaking the course record here is a proud moment, and I’m grateful for the support that made it possible.”
Notable Achievements
Cam Wurf set a new bike course record with a time of 3:53, marking the fastest bike split in an Ironman-distance race.
Taylor Knibb achieved a new women’s bike course record with a time of 4:19.
